Josh Turner

The most honorable waveking

Josh Turner is a Bass player born and raised in Los Angeles. Josh has played in and around Los Angeles for years and has played in countless bands and ensembles such as Hariz, Madi, Lina Kay, and the Temptations. Josh is very well versed in a multitude of genres and ensemble settings. If it has bass, Josh has most likely played it in one form or another.

Josh started playing bass in early middle school and was primarily self-taught until he studied at the Colburn conservatory’s high school jazz program, under the direction of Lee Secard. After graduating high school, he attended the California Institute of the Art (CalArts) and got his Bachelors in Jazz Bass. At CalArts, he studied with the masters Alphonso Johnson, Darek Oles, Vardan Ovsepian, Larry Koonse, and David Roitstien.

Josh’s playing style comes from a diverse love of music. When he initially started playing, he would play covers of Dio and Megadeth songs with his friends. Later on, he started to develop a love for funk, RnB, and Jazz. Jazz and RnB is the genre that has the most influence over his playing. Both on upright and electric, Josh has been able to find the pocket and live in it.
